Creating a World-Class Education System in Ohio

Achieve Report LogoAchieve Inc., a bipartisan, non-profit education organization created by the nation's governors and business leaders, conducted a policy study on Ohio’s education system and presented its findings and recommendations to the State Board of Education on February 13. [Full Report]

Achieve’s report, Creating a World-Class Education System in Ohio, recognizes how far Ohio has come and confirms that Ohio's education system is on the right track. It also provides recommendations for how to build upon Ohio's efforts to date and to move Ohio's education system forward, based upon national and international best practices. The State Board considered this report and the input received from regional meetings and provided through surveys posted on the ODE Web site at its June retreat.

2006-207 Guide for Ohio's Report Card System

To assist in the August 14 release of Local Report Card data, ODE has created the 2006-2007 Guide for Ohio's Report Card System.  ODE recommends that you share this guide with your board members, administrative and teaching staff, community members, families and local media. This guide explains Ohio's  accountability system and details such areas as State Indicators, Performance Index, Growth Calculation and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Additionally, it outlines consequences when schools or districts do not meet AYP, explains safe harbor and delineates the rules for counting students.

ODE has also developed Communication Guidance, a document to help you deliver key messages about the performance of your schools and district. Both the Guide and the Communications Guidance are available in PDF format and can be downloaded.
